| The Cryder monument, incorporating contrasting colors and finishes of granite, is a magnificent declaration of religious faith, love, and the memorial craft. Material includes steeled “Millstone Blue”, and polished “Flash Black”, granites and an “Oconee Granite” foundation. The late Mr. Cryder, a well-known Elberton community leader, headed the local baseball and softball umpire association. Mrs. Cryder is a teacher. The focal point of the monument is a 5-ft. high Cross with 2-ft., 6-in. arms with chamfered surfaces. Interlocking rings and the couple’s wedding date are on the Cross’s blue granite pedestal. Biographical information and Bible verses are on flanking tablets which also have chamfered edges. Etchings by artist Anne Jenson depict Mr. Cryder umpiring a youth baseball game and a symbolic angel is on Mrs. Cryder’s tablet. The 7-ft., 8-in. long, 2-ft., 2-in wide base has a drop wash and margin. The memorial was designed by Eagle Granite Company and Mrs. Cryder.
