New Diamond Coring Machine at Eagle Granite

Bob Paul, General Manager of EAGLE GRANITE COMPANY, INC., reported that the monument finishing firm has purchased an automatic diamond bit coring drill machine. Mr. Paul and Steve Johnson of E.G.A. Sustaining Member JOHNSON MACHINE SHOP, INC., which produced the machine, said that it is “basically a production model used to rapidly drill vase holes in granite bases for bronze memorials”. The fully-automatic machine is used to core either 5-in. or 6-in. holes in the bases at a rate of up to 3 ˝-inches in 90 seconds “giving us an increased production capability”, said Mr. Paul. The machine is set up on the firm’s bases-under-bronze automatic production line which also includes a twin drill system for coring 1-in. diameter lug holes. Johnson Machine also produced the lug hole machine.
